The Eastern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works in partnership with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and other infrastructure stakeholders will be hosting a provincial Woman in Construction Awards on 1 August 2009 to launch Women’s Month.
Recognition of excellence in construction is an initiative to honour women contractors that have distinguished themselves in their contribution to sector development through outstanding performance. These awards are to promote contractor development with a focus on women and as part of the celebration of Women’s Month.
The significance of these awards is their contribution towards Construction Week. The Independent Development Trust (IDT) as a partner will be contributing construction equipment to be utilised by contractors as part of the contractor development programme, which aims at developing and improving the grading of emerging contractors. The equipment will be handed over to Roads and Public Works MEC Pemmy Majodina during a media briefing prior to the event.
Public Works Minister Geoff Doidge and Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet will grace the occasion with their presence.
