Water and Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi to kick-start Public Participation programme in Limpopo province

Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will kick-start her Public Participation programme from 2 to 4 August 2010, in Limpopo province.

The engagement with communities by the deputy minister is in response to Cabinet's approval of the new outreach initiative, which replaced the initial Izimbizo programme.

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi will spend two days in Limpopo as part of her Public Participation programme. During her visit to the province the deputy minister will engage communities and launch projects of the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Water Affairs. The Department of Water Affairs' Blue Bus will form an integral part of the programme.

The Premier of Limpopo province, Mr Cassel Mathale will join the deputy minister during the Public Participation programme in Limpopo.

Programme of activities for the deputy minister's Public Participation programme in Limpopo

Day 1 

Launch of the Department of Environment Affairs' Maila Conservation of Medicinal Plants project:

The deputy minister will launch the Department of Environmental Affairs' R20 million project, which entails the establishment of a nursery, laboratory, guard house, medicinal plant garden, research centre and fencing for the whole facility.

Day 2 

Launch of the Department of Water Affairs' Luvuvhu Adopt-A-River project:

The launch will be preceded by cleaning of the Dzindi River. The deputy minister will launch Luvuvhu Adopt-A-River project aimed at creating awareness amongst municipalities, communities and women in the vicinity of the targeted river, of the need to care, protect and manage our scare water resources.

As part of celebrating women's month, at least 100 local women have volunteered to clean Luvuvhu River and in the process are afforded a stipend.
