Minister Sihle Zikalala undertakes working visit to People’s Republic of China, 4 to 9 Dec

South African Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr Sihle Zikalala is in China undertaking an official working visit to the People’s Republic of China from 4 – 9 December 2023. The Minister is joined by the newly confirmed DG of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr Sifiso Mdakane and Head of Infrastructure South Africa (acting), Ms Mameetse Masemola.

The visit itself is informed by an invitation from the China International Development Corporation Agency (CIDCA) and the Yunnan Provincial Peoples Government to attend and participate in the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation in Kunming between 7 and 8 December. During the conference, the Minister will give a keynote address and sign an exchange of letters with CIDCA sanctioning a cooperation on the Small Harbours development in South Africa.

Ministers official work visit will commence with government-to-government engagements in Beijing and technical engagements with organisations such as the China Communication Construction Company, China State Construction Engineering Corporation and China Energy Engineering Company.

The Ministers visit aims to leverage the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative to pivot the country’s infrastructure investment plan and fastrack the delivery of infrastructure in the country.
