South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board to appear before Committee

The Portfolio Committee on Communications has called the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to appear before the Committee on 24 August 2010.

Committee Chairperson, Ismail Vadi, said that the decision to call in the entire board has been prompted by an apparent corporate governance crisis within the board.

The board has been asked to report on:

  • its revised, turn-around strategy for the SABC
  • the functionality of the Board
  • the controversy relating to the appointment of Mr Phil Molefe as Head of News and current affairs.

The committee has also asked the new board of Sentech to appear before the committee on 31 August 2010 to present its revised strategic plan and to report on the resignation and suspension of its senior executive management team.
