Rural Development and Land Reform Minister, Gugile Nkwinti will visit the Comprehensive Rural Development (CRDP) pilot site in Dysselsdorp over the weekend

Members of the media are cordially invited to join Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti, accompanied by the provincial leadership and senior government officials to a walkabout at the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) pilot site on Saturday, 11September 2010, at 08h00 in Dysselsdorp Community Hall, Western Cape. This is a revisit to assess the progress that has been made on the site since it was launched earlier this year.

The Minister’s walkabout event coincides with the department’s broader one year anniversary celebrations which are to be celebrated in Limpopo later this year. The walkabout is a commitment made by the Minister in February 2010 to inspect the progress at the CRPD site. As such this event will start with a briefing session attended by the Mayor of Oudtshoorn Municipality, senior government officials and will feature the following key activities for the day:

  • a briefing session
  • household visits
  • a visit to the clinic and other projects, and
  • community interaction to which the minister, provincial leadership, stakeholders and residents of Dysslesdorp will commit, which will map a clear direction on the role each will haveto play in unleashing the potential of rural development, agrarian transformation and land reform amongst others, to fight against hunger, poverty, unemployment, and achieve socio-economic equity.

The details of the event in the Western Cape are as follows:
