Roads Indaba to improve road network in the Eastern Cape

Eastern Cape Roads and Public Works MEC Pemmy Majodina will host a provincial Roads Indaba on the 14 and 15 October 2010 at the International Convention Centre in East London.

The primary purpose of the indaba is to improve inter-governmental cooperation around the issue of roads maintenance and construction.

"Given the limited funding and technical capacity available to authorities in the sector it is important that we examine and put in place cooperative agreements to assist each other and coordinate efforts where possible," said MEC Majodina.

Delegates to the indaba will include elected and technical officials from the three levels of government and representatives from business, agriculture and the construction industry.

These delegates will also look at the current state of the roads in the province, adopting a road and bridge prioritisation model and future funding for roads infrastructure projects.

The MEC says the department is going to emerge from the indaba with a series of key resolutions on working together in maintaining as well as improving the road network in the Eastern Cape.
