Realising innovation at the fourth Public Sector Innovation Conference

The Centre for the Public Service Innovation (CPSI) is to host its fourth annual Public Sector Innovation Conference on the 31 August to 1 September 2010 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park.

The focus for this year will be on "Restoring Citizens' Dignity: Innovative Responses to Public Service Delivery Challenges".

Deputy Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Roy Padayachie will officially launch the conference that will see a range of presentations and case studies on innovation within the public service.

The conference will enable public servants and partners from a range of sectors to collaboratively interrogate service delivery approaches, strategies and solutions and to empower them to embrace innovation as a vehicle for achieving government’s service delivery priorities.

Key speakers will include the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Chairperson on Public Service and Administration, Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa and the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, academics, director-Generals, chief executives and innovators.

The conference intends to:

  • Demonstrate the role and centrality of innovation as a tool for responding to current government priorities and for anticipating citizens' changing needs
  • Explore key elements for successfully implementing and sustaining innovative programmes within the public sector that restore citizens' dignity and
  • Sharing of innovative perspectives and practices that respond to service delivery priorities.

The CPSI was born out of a need to build the capacity of the state to deliver public services more effectively and acts as a facilitator for the unearthing, development, testing and practical implementation of innovative ideas within and throughout the public service.
