Public Works to host APTCoD seminar in honour of youth month

Members of the media are advised that the Eastern Cape Department of Public
Works will in honour of the youth month host a seminar to celebrate the
achievements of the Accelerated Professional and Trade Competency
Development Programme (APTCoD) since its inception in 2007.

APTCoD is a departmental initiative to revive artisan personnel and develop built environment professionals towards registration with their respective associations to addresses skills shortage in the Eastern Cape. The target group is youth with N2 and N3 qualifications in the built environment and newly qualified professionals.

With 422 learners contracted from 2007, the programme addresses skills shortage, contributes to poverty alleviation and combats youth unemployment. APTCoD would certainly address poor workmanship in infrastructure project implementation and boost economic development in the Eastern Cape. Currently the programme boasts to have produced 38 qualified artisans.

National Public Works Minister Geoff Doidge will by the keynote speaker. Eastern
Cape Roads and Public Works MEC Pemmy Majodina will be awarding certificates of achievement to those learners and also encourage more youth to participate on programmes related to the built environment.
