Public safety empowers its women employees

The North West Department of Public Safety is to hold its second special service in the Bojanala Platinum District to empower its women employees through dialogue and prayer as part of its programme for Women's Month. The service is to be held at the provincial public safety Brits Traffic Office on Thursday.

The objective of the series of special services earmarked for all four districts is to enhance social cohesion and interaction among women as well as to create a culture of caring and support within the workplace.

At the first service held on Monday in Ngaka Modiri Molema District, women were encouraged by motivational speakers that included a pastors, social worker, psychologists and psychometrist to become agents of change, unite, know their identity, nourish their self esteem and develop attitudes of determination in order to enjoy their work.

Women employees were encouraged to report abuse, respect other women, abandon negative thoughts, childish behaviour and to cultivate patience and opt for assertiveness. “Clear your mess first, before you can step out. Do not be afraid of seeking help. Let 2010 be your turning point. Have timing and abandon childish behaviour” challenged Mmasenaba Makama, clinical psychologist from the Department of Education. The emphasis from speakers from South African Police Service, Departments of Health and Social Development, Education and Public Safety was for women to be aware that self encouragement is critical because success is a process.

Public Safety Chaplain Cynthia Reetseng, submits that women employees in the department are ministered to spiritually, appreciated and empowered emotionally and psychologically with regard to peculiar issues relating to women in the work place.

Services for Dr Kenneth Kaunda District and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati are to be held on Monday, 23 August 2010 and next Thursday, 26 August 2010 respectively and culminate into a departmental provincial event to be held on Monday, 30 August 2010 at Taung Traffic.
