President Jacob Zuma and Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Health Sibongiseni Dhlomo to take services to KwaSenge (Makhabeleni), KZN

The President of the Republic, Dr JG Zuma, will accompany the MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, as he takes services to one of the most deprived wards in Umzinyathi District Municipality; Ward 6 eMakhabeleni, to promote health services and improve health outcomes.

Umvoti Municipality is one of the four local municipalities within uMzinyathi District. Umvoti municipality has an increased level of poverty due to: low disposable income, poor access to services, poor access to land and other means of production and high rate of functional education, high rate of unemployment, low output ad low output. There are several areas in the municipality characterised by high concentrations of rural and poverty stricken population and where the backlogs in service provision, both social and engineering, are the most severe.

The area to be visited, Makhabeleni, is regarded as a ward afflicted by multiple deprivations. It has the very low income level, high unemployment rate, poor health outcomes, low level of education and highly underdeveloped environment.

The President and MEC Dhlomo will take various social services to this community as part of the Provincial government’s Sukuma Sakhe programme.
