Portfolio Committee on Health to discuss HIV and AIDS related issues with former African heads of state

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Health will tomorrow, 4 March 2010 hold a round-table discussion on HIV and AIDS related issues with the former African heads of state.

The former African heads of state delegation includes former presidents Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Festus Mogae of Botswana, Joachim Chisano of Mozambique and Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, South Africa Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Justice Edwin Cameroon and Chairperson of the Kenyan National Aids Control Council Professor Miriam Were will also be part of the discussions.

The former presidents form “The Champions for an HIV-free Generation” organisation. This organisation whose mandate is to mobilise leadership in Africa and to promote effective policies and action on HIV prevention, also includes influential people.
