A platoon of community safety volunteers come of age

The MEC for Gauteng Community Safety, Khabisi Mosunkutu, will confer certificates of merit to about 2 200 members of various community policing forums (CPFs) and patrollers at a graduation ceremony to be held at the Harftfield Arena, Pretoria on Mondays, 31 August 2009.

The certificates are awarded as a result of undergoing a course through the University of Pretoria. The course attended by these volunteers is accredited by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA), and includes a range of disciplines such as self management, community awareness, personal effectiveness, conflict management, service delivery and community relations.

This is one way that the Department of Community Safety in partnership with the University of Pretoria is contributing to skills development to make volunteers employable in amongst other areas, the security sector. The second group will graduate on Monday, 7 September 2009.
