Parliamentarians address Gugulethu youth on trafficking

The Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Ms Thandi Memela and the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly will today, 10 June 2010, jointly address the youth of Gugulethu Township in Cape Town about child trafficking and gender based violence.

This is a campaign initiated by Ilitha Labantu, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Gugulethu. The campaign seeks to highlight the vulnerability of children in human trafficking. Children are easily manipulated and intimidated by the perpetrators.

As South Africa hosts the biggest sporting event, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, parents are called upon to take greater care of their children.

Details for media wishing to attend the event are as follows:

Date: 10 June 2010
Time: 10h00
Venue: Gugulethu sport complex, corner of NY1 and NY2, Gugulethu
