Parliament to get a briefing on Eastern Cape's infant mortality

Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Health has requested the provincial Department of Health to brief them on child mortality and infection control in the province.

Committee Chairperson Bevan Goqwana said they had received a report which suggested that more than 30 infants have died in the province each month since February.

"We want to know the cause of these deaths, and to see if they can't be curbed so that they don't spread to other provinces, and also find out how we can assist as Members of Parliament," said Goqwana.
