Parliament commemorates the end of Youth Month

Please join Parliament’s Presiding Officers, Chairpersons of Parliamentary Committees, Parliamentary officials and youth from rehabilitation centres and universities in the Western Cape in commemorating the end of Youth Month.

Parliament has invited a range of young people to the Old Assembly Chamber on 30 June 2009 to discuss, share experiences and look at how they can work with Parliament to ensure that life in South Africa improves for all.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 30 June 2009
Venue: M46 Marks Building
Time: 10h30 to 13h00

Some of the young people will be from rehabilitation centres and universities in the Western Cape. Also part of the day’s activities will be a young writer, Nthikeng Mohlele, author of The Scent of Bliss.

Highlights of the day’s programme:
* Address by Parliament’s Presiding Officers
* Outline of the work of the Portfolio Committee on women, youth, children and people with disabilities
* Photo session involving the young people and Parliament’s Presiding Officers (steps outside the National Assembly Chamber building)
* Talk by a young person from a rehabilitation centre
* Talk by Nthikeng Mohlele, author of The Scent of Bliss
* Talk by a university student
* Talk by a young person from partners in sexual health
* The young people who are at the event sign a pledge promising to work with Parliament and provincial legislature to ensure that issues directly affecting the youth are addressed.
