Parliament’s Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform to conduct oversight visit to Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal

As part of its mandate to oversee the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform, will from Monday 19 April to 23 April conduct oversight visits to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

During the visit, the Committee will monitor and assess progress made with regards to implementation of rural development initiatives under the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme.

It will also look at the challenges encountered by land reform beneficiaries and find out the extent to which the recapitalisation and development program will bail out distressed land reform projects.

The visit will also afford the public an opportunity to engage with Members of Parliament on various aspects of the rural development programme.

The committee will also explore the impact of the Land Rights Management Facility on farm workers or dwellers and occupiers of commercial farms, as well as gain insight and understanding of challenges encountered by the department and the Ingonyama Trust with regard to administration of public land.

The committee will start by visiting Mhlontlo and Amathole Municipalities in the Eastern Cape, after which it will move to KwaZulu-Natal.
