Official signing of a bi-lateral agreement on energy efficiency monitoring project between the Government of the Republic of South Africa and the Swiss Confederation

Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters will sign a bi-lateral agreement on energy efficiency monitoring project on behalf of the South African government with the Swiss Confederation. The Confederation will be represented by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation is funding a R120 million Climate Change Mitigation Programme in South Africa. The purpose of this Agreement shall be to provide financial support to the Department of Energy (DoE) in order to contribute to the Energy Efficiency Monitoring and Implementation project in the Republic of South Africa. It will also support the DoE in monitoring the achievement of targets for energy efficiency in the building sector.

The programme will run for four years, from 2010 to 2013. It will be implemented through, and in close collaboration with local actors from national and local government, research institutions, NGOs, private sector and will be supported by regional and international best practice including Swiss expertise.
