Minister Dlamini Zuma to join celebrations of Mandela Day in Bulwer

Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will join the people of our country, Africa and the world in celebrating the 92nd birthday and marking the Mandela Day on Sunday, 18 July, by distributing identity documents (IDs) to senior citizens over the age of 80 at a ceremony that will be held at the Bulwer Hall in Kwazulu-Natal Midlands from 10h00 to 13h00.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma is of the conviction that the successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup by South Africa is indeed the best gift that the people of our country, Africa and the world could have given to our Former President on his 92nd birthday.

The distribution of IDs to senior citizens in Bulwer by Minister Dlamini Zuma is part of an overall plan of the Department of Home Affairs that will be rolled out throughout the country on Sunday, 18 July and as part of national and international celebrations to mark Mandela Day.

In this regard, a series of events have been planned across the country including:

  • Further distribution of IDs and processing of ID applications in Galeshewe Day hospital, Upington and Pampierstad (Northern Cape); Thornton (Western Cape) and Mthatha (Eastern Cape)
  • Distribution of IDs to elders in Mamelodi (Gauteng); Bloemfontein (Free State) Bethal (Mpumalanga) and George Thembalethu (Western Cape)
  • Refurbishment of Home Affairs offices accross the country focusing mainly on painting in Marabastad (Pretoria), led by the Director-General Mkuseli Apleni.
