Minister Dlamini Zuma to hold bilateral discussions with her Italian counterpart, Minister Roberto Maroni

South African Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Friday, 1 October hold bilateral discussions with her Italian counterpart, Minister Roberto Maroni in Rome, Italy to discuss immigration issues.

South Africa is currently in a process of developing a new immigration policy focusing mainly on the need for the separation of economic migrants from genuine asylum seekers and in this regard is looking at various international experiences related to this question.

In pursuance of this objective, Minister Dlamini Zuma had earlier in the week, on Tuesday, 28 September also met her French counterpart in Paris.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is currently on an official visit to several European capitals ahead of her annual visit to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee meeting scheduled from 4 to 7 October in Geneva.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma will lead a senior South African government delegation and deliver the country statement to the Executive Committee meeting on Monday, 4 October focusing on among others, current efforts by the South African government to document Zimbabweans living in the country while giving progress reports particularly on the country's efforts to develop a new immigration policy.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on 7 October 2010.
