Minister Baloyi to open the 14th Public Sector Trainers Forum Conference

Public Service and Administration Minister, Richard Baloyi and Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet will on Monday, 4 October 2010 open the 14th Annual Public Sector Trainers Forum Conference Forum in East London. The three day conference will be start with the registration of delegates and media on 4 October 2010 at the East London ICC at 08h00.

The conference which is hosted annually in different provinces is attended by Human Resource, Human Development Managers and Practitioners. These are employees who responsible for capacity development, skills development, competency assessment, performance management, and in-service education and training to improve service standards in the public sector. Quiet often communities complain about ill-treatment they receive in government departments and lack of service delivery by government. This conference therefore will try to address why after all the training that has been done for public servants; there is still slow service delivery; there is still a cry about the conduct of some public servants and bad communication with clients.

The conference will also create a platform for sharing of innovations and best practices in the Public Service, Private Sector and SETAS in order to capacitate the public servants and improve their skills and knowledge. Institutions of Higher Learning which are the breeding hub of new talent will also take part in the conference. The Eastern Cape is renowned for producing highly skilled public servants but most are lost to other provinces and national departments.

The theme for this year is making the elephant dance: and is a metaphor that explains that whist it is difficult to train an elephant, when trained smartly, it will not forget its steps. The public service negative image in terms of conduct by civil servants will be improved. The programme also looks at moral regeneration as a strategy for change in the public service. (This will address corruption, bad communications to clients etc).

Members of the media will be afforded an opportunity to inter act with Minister Baloyi and Premier Kiviet at 10h30 at the ICC on 4 October 2010.
