Cancellation of the Media Briefing of the 3rd BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development 

Owing to unforeseen circumstances, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries unfortunately has to withdraw the media invite of the 3rd BRICS Ministers of Agriculture, and Agrarian Development meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday), 29 October at 11:30. The session will not be open to the media for coverage. A media statement on the BRICS meeting will be shared with the media soon after the meeting.

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson invites members of the media to a briefing of the third BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development meeting. The BRICS meeting will seek to pursue issues of common interest pertaining to food security, particularly the impact of climate change in this regard.

Discussions will centre on the implementation of the Action Plan that was endorsed by the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development at their meeting in Chengdu, China, in 2011. The meeting in Pretoria is expected to culminate in the signing of a joint declaration on the next steps to be taken to enhance cooperation.

BRICS is an acronym for the grouping of the world’s leading emerging market economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS mechanism aims to promote development cooperation, security, peace and establishment of a more equitable world.
