The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to host post UNFCCC COP19 media briefing aand also launch first OECD review of South Africa's Environmental performance

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa will host a media briefing on 3 December to discuss the outcomes of the recent climate change talks at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP 19 which took place in Warsaw, Poland from 11 to 23 November 2013.

Minister Molewa was the Head of the South African delegation to COP19/CMP9, where SA worked to advance the negotiations on a multilateral climate change regime.

The Minister and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will also brief the media on the OECD’s first Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of South Africa on 3 December, immediately after the post UNFCCC COP19 media briefing.

The process for the development of the EPR of South Africa entailed interaction of OECD technical experts with officials and representatives from various sectors including government, academia/ Universities and research institutions, as well as the private and NGO sector. 

The report on the Environmental Performance of South Africa includes an
overview of the policy-making framework and analysis of green growth,
biodiversity and the economics of ecosystem services, environmental
governance and international cooperation, as well as a set of
recommendations.
