Media briefing on the new Public Further Education and Training College Attendance and Punctuality Policy

The Director-General of Higher Education and Training, Mr Gwebinkundla Qonde, will brief the media on the new Public Further Education and Training (FET) College Attendance and Punctuality Policy. The policy addresses the department’s concern about the impact of absenteeism and late-coming on student retention and achievement.

In line with the new policy, FET Colleges are expected to set and enforce high levels of attendance and punctuality to improve students’ chances of success and prepare them for the professional culture of the workplace. Disbursement of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds will also be tied to beneficiaries’ attendance patterns.

The Director-General will also afford journalists the opportunity to ask questions on other current pertinent issues affecting the FET sector.
