Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Zoleka Capa cordially invites members of the media to a briefing about the Department’s Women’s Expo and Stakeholder Engagement event scheduled to be held from 28 to 30 August 2013 at the Bhisho Showgrounds.

The briefing is aimed at unpacking what the department seeks to achieve by hosting event where women from across the length and breadth of the province will engage to find ways and means on how they can participate in the mainstream economic development.

To this end, women have been trained in construction (100) and textile (60) fields by the department. The training was made in conjunction with both the textile and construction Setas to ensure the high standard of the training. The trained women have also been given sewing machines and material to further advance their businesses.

And the MEC has a vision of forming a provincial textile corporative that will professionalize the informal textile business, which women operate in roundavels and backyard shacks. Women are also actively involvement and assisted in farming practices from crop to livestock improvement programmes.

The MEC wishes to see women working together towards sustainable empowerment and she envisages that will be made possible when both rural and urban women engage on how to remove barriers they face when they seek funding both in the private and public sectors.
