Joint media briefing to publicise the accessible ID document as part of the Disability Rights Awareness Month

The Deputy Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu MP, together with the Department of Home Affairs, will host a joint media briefing on Thursday to popularise the new accessible smart ID cards which have Braille feature, as part of government’s response to ensuring access to services for people with disabilities.

The 2013 Disability Rights Awareness Month is celebrated under the theme “Breaking barriers, open doors: for an inclusive society for all”. This joint media briefing takes place also in line with this year’s sub-theme of promoting Braille as a tool to insure literacy among blind people. The day will include a handover of the new accessible smart ID cards to prominent blind individuals.
