A first Laporoscopic Aortobifemoral Bypass Procedure performed at Dr George

This morning, surgeons at Dr George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane will brief the media on South Africa’s first Laporoscopic Aortobifemoral bypass procedure performed at the hospital last Friday.

Previously, the patient’s abdomen had to be cut for this procedure to be performed and this time, technology advanced equipment such as cameras was used and the patient’s abdomen was not opened.

The patient, a 63-year-old pensioner had insufficient blood flow to the legs causing blocked artery of the abdomen. He experience terrible pain in the legs.

Following the briefing by Head of general surgery, Dr Zach Koto and senior clinical executive, Dr Freddy Kgongwane, journalists will be able to interview the beneficiary, Mr Mosupye who is well and will be discharged later today.
