Department of Rural Development and Land Reform invites members of the media to briefing

The Minister of Department of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Gugile Nkwinti together with his Deputy Minister Lechesa Tsenoli cordially invite members of the media to a media briefing session to be held on 22 February 2013, at Imbizo Centre in Cape Town at 10h00.

2013 marks 100 years since the promulgation of the 1913 Natives Land Act, a discriminatory piece of legislation through which the majority of black South Africans were dispossessed of their land rights. The horrendous effects of the implementation of the 1913 Natives Land Act by the previous regime are evident everywhere across the country.

Nineteen years since the democratic government came into office; decisive, progressive strides have been made to reverse the negative legacy of a prejudiced legislation effected by the apartheid government.

Senior managers will share amongst others, information on the following work of the department:

  • Rural development and Land Reform issues raised by the President in his State of the Nation address
  • 2013 project (the 1913 Land Act centenary)
  • The re-opening of lodgement of land claims

The event is scheduled as follows:
Date: 22 February 2013
Venue: Imbizo centre Cape Town (Parliament)
Time: 11h00 to 13h00
