Department of Defence to brief the media on SANDF deployment in the Eastern DRC

The Department of Defence will tomorrow hold a media briefing to share information with members of the media on the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) deployment as part of the UN Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The deployment of the FIB follows the passing of the UN resolution 2098 in March of 2013, which authorises an intervention force of the UN to intervene in cases where negative forces threaten the lives of citizens and property in the east of the DRC.

The information sharing session with the media, which will be lead by the Department of Defence's Head of Communications Mr Siphiwe Dlamini and SANDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga supported by senior personnel from the office of the Chief of Joint Operations in the SANDF will take place as follows:
