Commission for Gender Equality's Position on Sex Work - Launch of position paper

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) cordially invites you to its media briefing on its “Sex Work Position” on 16 May 2013 Atrium of the Women’s Gaol, Constitution Hill, Braamfontein. The event will take place from 09h00 to 13h00.

In attendance would be Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) currently conducting work in the sex industry and with workers respectively, Government departments directly responsible for addressing issues relating to sex workers.

The CGE is aware of the different expectations of civil society and government, and of the fact that the ‘ideal’ role of a chapter 9 organisation (as an institution supporting constitutional democracy) is to serve the interests of particular groups and individuals to ensure their rights are upheld as per the constitution of South Africa.

Subsequent to this launch, it is envisaged that the CGE will work with CSOs, COSATU and the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities in taking the recommendations that would be shared at the media briefing forward.
