Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele, during President Jacob Zuma's state visit to China last week (24 to 26 August 2010), signed a ground breaking agreement on railways and other transport related matters with his Chinese counterpart Minister of Railways Mr Liu Zhijun.
Transport Director-General Mr George Mahlalela will brief media on the details of these transport agreements as well as South Africa's rail plan.
Among other issues, the director-general will brief media on:
- rail infrastructure maintenance and development
- financing
- network safety and regulation
- technology transfer
- harmonisation of technical standards
- implementation of integrated railway transport master planning and network development and
- promotion of intermodalism in the area of public transport services.
