MEC Yawa vists Moretele PVA

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is scheduled to join crime prevention and road traffic law enforcement operations in Moretele ahead of the Spain-Germany match to be played on Wednesday, 7 July 2010 evening.

After the pre-match operations, MEC Yawa who considers Public Viewing
Areas (PVAs) in the province as safe and vibrant alternatives will join football fans in Bojanala Platinum District who will watch the Spain-Germany match from the Makapanstad Stadium PVA.

MEC Yawa has welcomed reports that security at the Maquassi Hills PVA in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality is tight because since the tournament began on the 11 June because fans are not allowed to access the facility with weapons in their possession nor to bring in their own food or bottled drinks inside the public viewing area.

“Since the beginning of the tournament we have had no crime incidents either at the parking or inside the PVA and no arrest of any person has taken place,” said MEC Yawa, adding that the zero tolerance on criminal activities has been made possible by a strong partnerships between South African Police Service (SAPS), hired private security companies, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Disaster and Risk Management and local volunteers.

About 160 security guards are on their toes whenever soccer viewers from as far as Christiana, Bloemhof and the neighbouring towns of Klerksdorp, Schweizer-Reneke and Vryburg come in great number to watch matches at the PVA.

A Maquassi Hills local businessman and chairperson of Maquassi Hills Liquor consortium comprised of 13 tavern owners from Makwassi, Moruti Matha says the establishment of the PVA in their area has benefitted local business a great deal and that they are all united against crime even beyond 2010.
