MEC Thusi to open R7 million state of the art library

The impoverished community of King Dinuzulu, in Eshowe, northern KwaZulu, will benefit hugely when KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Mrs Weziwe Thusi, officially hands over a state of the art library.

The library, which cost the Department of Arts and Culture R7 million, will close a huge literacy gap in the area as it offers books for school learners, university students and those reading for leisure to the value of R1,5 million. Magazines and DVDs are also available for the community to utilise within this safe, accessible and beautiful structure. Since the department is mandated to encourage the culture of reading and writing in communities, the building of libraries is a major step towards achieving that goal. The King Dinuzulu library is just one of the five libraries that the department supports within Umlalazi municipality.

The library boasts cutting edge technology and has a fully employed cybercadet, who assists library users with learning information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

King Dinuzulu library will be opened and handed over to the communities by MEC Weziwe Thusi, who will be accompanied by the local Mayor, amakhosi and councillors. The MEC will also officially launch the department’s Facebook page.
