MEC Mazibuko to launch Provincial Gender Based Violence Forum at Eldorado Park

In line with commemoration of 16 Days of Activism against women and children abuse the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Ms Faith Mazibuko will tomorrow, 6 December 2011, jointly with SAPS conduct a Domestic Violence Prevention awareness campaign in Eldorado Park to address the high rate of domestic violence in the area.

Details of the event are as follows:

  • Phase 1: The event will commence with a briefing session, were the Cluster Commander will give the MEC and stakeholders an overview of crime in the areas, particularly domestic violence at Eldorado Park Police Station at 9h00 to 10h00
  • Phase 2: Door to door campaigns were the MEC accompanied by key stakeholders will interact with members of the community on issues of crime in the following hotspots between 10h15 to11h15;
    • Freedom Park, to address the of the attacks on women in the area
    • Visit the Gibbs family which has more than 50 domestic violence dockets at Eldorado Police Station
    • Kliptown, to address the issues of substance abuse
  • Phase 3: The MEC, Provincial Commissioner and other stakeholders will address community members on the impact of domestic violence and substance abuse in and around the area. Member of the community will be urged pledge their support to programmes aimed at curbing domestic violence. Gender Based Violence Prevention Forum (GBVPF) and Man as Safety Promoters (MASP) will be launched at Eldorado Park Station at 12h00 to 15h00
