MEC for Health to present a report on progress in various areas of healthcare delivery to provincial legislature

On Thursday, 29 July 2010, the MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, will present a report to the KwaZulu-Natal legislature on the rollout of medical male circumcision, skills and competency audit of hospital chief executive officers, the department's fight against corruption and financial turnaround strategy and the nursing posts.

"The public opinion is a critical factor in service delivery and, second, that a democratic public sphere is a critical part of the architecture of a responsive social service. It is for this reason that we are presenting this report to the house,” believes the MEC.

The MEC will appraise the legislature and the people of KwaZulu-Natal on the implementation of some of the department's key programmes.

These include the:

  • skills and competency audits of hospital chief executive officers
  • filling of nursing posts
  • roll-out of the Medical Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention programme, and
  • progress on the financial turnaround strategy as well as the fight against corruption in the department.

The MEC's report will provide progress in these areas, highlight challenges and provide a way forward.

Journalists are invited to hear the MEC during his presentation and for a media briefing thereafter.
