MEC for Health meeting Hospital Board Chairpersons to strengthen partnership in the delivery of healthcare

Today, the MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, is meeting chairpersons of hospital boards in a bid to strengthen partnership and affirm their role in the delivery of healthcare.

“Two way process of the community making their needs known in terms of things like clinics and access to clinics and hospitals, talking to them about what things are needed in terms of being healthy and working together to try to establish better healthcare and better structures are key to ensuring that we are answerable and deliver responsive healthcare to the community” the Dr Dhlomo said.

Hospital Boards are established in terms of section 41 (6) of the National Health Act, Act 61 of 2003 to be the voice of the community in the delivery of healthcare at the point of care. Hospitals (and clinics) need to know its community well. It needs to be well connected with its health needs and the MEC appoints hospital boards to facilitate this connection between the community and the hospital or clinic.

“Our endeavour to deliver quality care to our people, we need to work hand in hand with the community and this meeting would seek to strengthen our relations towards this goal” the MEC continued.
