MEC hands over ten houses constructed during Mandela week

North West Human Settlements MEC Desbo Mohono will on Monday, officially hand over ten houses constructed during the Nelson Mandela week in Cokonyane, Taung.

The ten houses, which are meant for the poor, are part of the provincial Nelson Mandela Week programme. Construction started during the Mandela week in Taung by Members of the Executive Council (MECs), Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) and senior members of government.

MEC Mohono will hand over the ten houses exactly one month after laying the first foundation of two of ten houses. The 10 houses are also part of the departmental commitment made during the departmental policy commitment speech at the North West legislature in May.

She said at the time: "We will identify ten families living in mud houses and then lay foundations for proper houses to be built".

This intervention by the department will further contribute towards the reduction of mud houses in the Greater Taung area, which is part of the department's commitment.

The Department of Human Settlements used Mandela week to work with other sectors of society to help expand access to housing for many people in rural areas. The media is invited to be part of the handover ceremony which will take place as follows:
