MEC Faith Mazibuko signs contract with cooperatives for school uniform project, 25 Aug

Women to benefit from school uniform project

More than 300 cooperatives owned by women are expected to sign contract with the MEC for Gauteng Department of Social Development Ms Faith Mazibuko as part of Women’s Month celebration.

All women who will be awarded with contracts tomorrow at the Constitutional Hill will be sewing school uniform and generate an income for their families.

A total of 2 194 people who are permanently employed in the cooperatives will benefit through the project and 1 835 are women.

Cooperatives are profit-making entities and therefore have a potential to contribute towards the radical economic transformation of the women in the province.

The Department of Social Development, through the school uniform project, aims to provide 130 000 children with school uniform packs in the 2015/16 financial year.

One pack consists of pair of shoes, socks, underwear, tunic/shirt/trouser/skirt/dungaree, jersey and a vest.

The meeting will be hosted as follows:-
Venue: The Constitutional Hill in (Braamfontein)
Date: 25 August 2015
Time: 9h00
