Mapungubwe celebration: heritage, water conservation awareness and indigenous rain-making

Department of Environmental Affairs and South African National Parks (SANParks) will lead a multi-stakeholder Mapungubwe heritage celebration, water conservation awareness and rain-making on 29 October 2010.

The main objective of this event is the revival of important indigenous knowledge of water conservation linked to indigenous rainmaking ability which could be infused in a valuable body of knowledge to manage contemporary challenges such as water scarcity and climate change.

The Honourable, His Majesty Khosikhulu T T Ramabulana Mphephu of the Vha-Venda and his counterpart His Majesty King Victor Thulare Sekhukhune of the Bapedi will grace the event.

The Modjadji Dynasty descendants will also perform the rainmaking rituals at the ceremony. It is against this background that we would like to invite you to the celebration.Transport and accommodation will be provided from Thursday, 28 October for members of the media wishing to travel to the celebration in Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site.Departure point for the media is SANParks Head Office in Pretoria (643 Leyds Street, Muckleneuk) and departure time is 09h00.
