HIV testing at the Youth Day celebration

In an effort to encourage youth to avoid illnesses, the Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development will be conducting health screening at the Youth Day celebration tomorrow in Moretele Park, Tshwane.

Young people will be screened for high blood pressure, sugar diabetes, cholesterol, tuberculosis (TB) and HIV as part of the national HIV counselling and testing campaign that aims to encourage South Africans to get tested and know their health status.

The campaign which was launched in April will run until June 2011. Gauteng aims to test more than 3.8 million people.

At the celebration, the department aims to test about 7 000 people. On site counselling and referral for further support and treatment will also be available.
