Handover of the Provincial High Performance Training Centre for Boxing

The Provincial High Performance Training Centre for Boxing is the newest addition on the premises of the Free State Sport Science Institute. The training centre forms part of the department’s talent development and retention strategy to develop and train identified talented boxers of the Free State on provincial level. It will provide amateur boxers with sport scientific support and expose them to the latest training regimes.

The Free State Amateur Boxing Federation will utilise the facility, where they can professionally prepare boxers to represent the province at provincial, national as well as international level. The Provincial High Performance Training Centre for Boxing will ensure that all provincial boxers receive capacity building interventions such as life skill course. Winter and summer training camps will also be rendered to talented boxers in all five districts of the Free State Province.

The Provincial High Performance Training Centre for Boxing is an innovative step in creating ground breaking opportunities for the talented boxers of the Free State to make the grade ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

The Provincial High Performance Training Centre will officially be handed over by Wilmiet Construction to the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule on 17 August 2010 at 12h00 at the Free State Sport Science Institute.
