Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities hosts consultation on Positive Masculinity to End Violence Against Women and Girls, 17 Nov

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities and the African Union Development Agency host a consultation on  Positive Masculinity to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Midrand South Africa Pretoria.

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) invite members of the media to a hybrid consultation meeting with the private sector business and organised labour on Positive Masculinity to End Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG), on Friday 17 November 2023.

The above consultation is held ahead of the 2023 African Union Men’s Conference on Positive Masculinity in Leadership to End Violence Against Women and Girls, co-hosted by the South African government, in partnership with the Republic of Comoros on 27 and 28 November 2023 in Pretoria South Africa.

The theme for the hybrid consultation session is harnessing the private sector and organised labour towards a safe and inclusive environment for women and girls. The business and labour community across Africa is a key role player in shaping both the social and economic landscape across the region. Poverty, inequality and unemployment contribute to women’s vulnerability to violence, therefore economic empowerment of women is key for overall development and eradication of violence against women.

The empowerment of women requires ensuring that their voices are represented and their contribution is given equal opportunity in the world of business and the workplace, which is also critical for the economic growth of the entire continent.

The consultation meeting will take place as follows: Date: Friday 17 November 2023 Time: 09:00 -15:00 Venue: AUDA-NEPAD Offices (Midrand South Africa) Members of the media can use the link attached for their registration and attendance: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEofumhrD4rE93ALVb4VavliOhHMcni2H-W.
