Women’s Day Commemoration hosted in KwaZulu-Natal

President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address at the national Women’s Day Commemoration on Saturday, 9 August 2014 at King Zwelithini Stadium, Umlazi Township, KwaZulu-Natal province. The theme for Women’s Month is “Celebrating 60th Anniversary of the Women’s Charter and 20 years of Freedom: Together Non-racial and Non-sexist South Africa Forward!” The President will be accompanied by Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa and the Minister of Women, Ms Susan Shabangu.

As part of the many activities planned for the month, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will officially open the 20 Years of Democracy Exhibition on Friday, 8 August 2014 at KwaZulu-Natal Museum, Pietermaritzburg. The exhibition is aimed at celebrating our icons, especially women who have excelled in their respective fields such as the arts, leadership, sports, science and conservation.

The opening of exhibition will be preceded by the Deputy Minister’s visit to Forest Hill Primary School, also in Pietermaritzburg. The visit is part of Department of Arts and Culture’s “Flag in Every School” Programme. The programme entails hoisting of the National Flag, the singing of the National Anthem and the recital of the Preamble of the Constitution by the learners. South African hand flags and publications on national symbols and the anthem will also be distributed at the school.
