Wards to be contested in the municipal by-elections

Municipal ward by-elections will take place in five provinces namely Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Western Cape on Wednesday, 5 December 2012.

A total of eight  wards will be contested. Voting will take place in 28 voting districts in the following wards:

Eastern Cape (EC):

  • Ward 22 in Lukhanji [Queenstown] Municipality – EC134 with 3 655 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Free State:

  • Ward 12 in Setsoto [Senekal] Municipality – FS191 with 3 185 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN):

  • Ward 39 in e-Thekwini (Durban Metro) Municipality – ETH with 17 237 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by Inkatha Freedom Party and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
  • Ward 72 in e-Thekwini (Durban Metro) Municipality – ETH with 17 294 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
  • Ward 2 in Hlabisa (Somkele) Municipality – KZN274 with 4 395 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by National Freedom Party and became vacant as a result of resignation of the councillor.
  • Ward 4 in Nkandla (Nkandla) Municipality – KZN286 with 3 493 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Mpumalanga:

  • Ward 3 in Msukaligwa (Ermelo) Municipality – MP302 with 3 447 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by African National Congress and became vacant as a result of death of the councillor.

Western Cape:

  • Ward 2 in Bitou (Greater Plettenberg Bay) Municipality – WC047 with 4 002 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by Democratic Alliance and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
