Universities to brief the Committee on student protests

Members of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will tomorrow (Wednesday, 27 August 2014) receive a briefing from the representatives of the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) and University of Limpopo on student protests in 2014 and plans to prevent future academic disruptions.

The two are some of the institutions that were affected by the students’ protests which led to the disruption of academic programmes and destruction of property few months ago. Each University will be represented by members of management, Student Representative Council and the Council Members.

The Committee saw it important to invite the various stakeholders to present their challenges with possible solutions to prevent future disruptions which compromise the culture of learning, working and research at the institutions of higher learning.
