Tshwane Mayor to visit Kleinfontein

On Wednesday, 29 May 2013 at 11:00, Tshwane’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Kgosientso Ramokgopa, together with Members of the Mayoral Committee, will visit the renowned “whites only” Kleinfontein settlement, which has been at the centre of media attention following revelations that the community practises racial exclusion and has almost established an independent  state.

The visit is not a law enforcement exercise, but is aimed at fact finding, reaching out to the community and understanding their concerns. Ramokgopa has prioritised the issue after recent media reports about new calls for a separate Afrikaner settlement, and will utilise the visit to reiterate that racial practices have no place in the democratic era.

The Executive Mayor has called on the leadership of civil rights organisations and other government agencies to join in this exercise so as to welcome the minority community of Kleinfontein back into Tshwane and assure them that they have no reason to fear.

This extension of goodwill by the Tshwane administration is also meant to discuss amicable remedies for this organised community’s apparent non-compliance with certain planning and housing regulations and other by-laws.
