Transport Minister intensifies Road Safety as Northern Cape launches 2012 Festive Season Campaign

Transport Minister, Honourable Dikobe Ben Martins and Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Patrick Mabilo, together with MECs from other provinces will officially launch the Northern Cape 2012 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign on Friday.

Minister Martins will deliver a keynote address during the launch.

Joining the principals, will be senior national and provincial government officials, inter-faith and inter-denominational leaders, key transport stakeholders and members of the community from across the Republic of South Africa.

The launch will emphasise and call upon all road users, public transport operators (short and long distance), private motorists, passengers and pedestrians to take personal responsibility for their safety on the roads.

Road traffic law enforcement officers and officials will step up road safety operations throughout the festive period in order to reduce the carnage on the roads.

In society, everyone knows someone who has been affected by a road crash or they themselves have been affected.

The day will be commemorated through a programme that reflects a strong religious and interfaith character.
