Transport Minister Honourable Dipuo Peters will lead a railway safety community outreach to be held at the Daveyton Train Station, Johannesburg. The slogans “Always expect a train” and “Where there is a track, there is a train” are the main messages the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is relaying with its national campaign to promote safe railway behaviour and safe communities.
A total of 412 people died in accidents involving trains during the period 01 April 2011 to 31 March 2012. The majority of these were members of the public struck by trains at level-crossings.
The Minister will be joined by Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Dr. Ishmail Vadi, Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Members of the Mayoral Committee, senior national, provincial and municipal officials and key stakeholders in the rail sector.
Minister Peters will address the community on railway safety and hand out information and educational material aimed at encouraging railway safety awareness among community members.
The Minister and the delegation will also take a walk about at the Daveyton taxi rank (NB: opposite the mall, not opposite the station).

The Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) was established in terms of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, 2002 (Act 16, 2002) (as amended) to oversee and promote safe railway operations through appropriate support, monitoring and enforcement, guided by an enabling regulatory framework.
