Transport Minister brings road and rail safety under the spotlight in the Northern Cape

Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters will, on Friday, 25 October 2013, bring road and rail safety sharply under the spotlight during her visit and engagement with motorists, rail and road users and communities in the Colesberg and Noupoort areas in the Northern Cape.

The objective of the Minister’s visit is to further spread the message of road and rail safety in the province.

Joining the Minister during the engagements will be Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Mac Jack, Chairpersons and CEOs of transport state owned companies, Heads of Road Traffic Management and senior national and provincial officials. The Minister’s visit forms part of the Department of Transport’s recently launched 365-Days Road Safety Program.

Minister Peters and MEC Jack will engage with motorists and road users under the Province’s “Operation Kwanele” (Operation It is enough) in order to heighten road safety awareness and encourage road uses to take personal responsibility for their safety.

As part of the engagement, Minister Peters will also visit Noupoort to spread the message of rail safety and awareness in conjunction with the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR). Later, the Minster will visit Noupoort High School where she will officially unveil a Plaque and hand over a refurbished and well-resourced Science Laboratory to the school.

The Minister’s programme for the day will culminate in a visit to and engagement with the elderly community and people with disabilities in the area.
