Transport Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga visit stakeholders

Transport Deputy Minister, Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga; MP will on Wednesday, 24 July 2013 be visiting some of the key stakeholder’s in-line with the government intergovernmental and stakeholder policy. She is visiting Eqstra Fleet Management; a key stakeholder in the department for road safety campaigns.

The Department of Transport in partnership with Eqstra will be celebrating Mandela Day on the 3 August 2013 in KwaZulu-Natal –in partnership with the Zenani Mandela Road Safety Scholarship Award with Mandela Foundation & FIA Foundation UK.

Road traffic injuries remain a major public health problem and a leading cause of death, injury and disability around the world. Each year, nearly 1.3 million people die and between 20 million and 50 million more are injured as a result of road crashes.

More than 90 per cent of these deaths occur in low-income and middle-income countries, which have less than half of the world’s vehicles. Road traffic injuries are among the three leading causes of death for people between five and 44 years of age. In celebrating the partnership with Eqstra, the Deputy Minister will be interacting with EQSTRA employees and members of Media in attendance.
