'Think pink-hard-hat' - Unesco Africa Engineering Week focus on Women

Women engineers from companies such as Group Five, Bosch and UJ Solar Car will address a “Women in Engineering Breakfast Seminar” to be held on 3 September at the University of Johannesburg, Doorfontein Campus from 9h00 – 13h00.

The seminar will include activities focusing on girl children in engineering under the theme “Think pink-hard-hat”. The aim is to thwart the myth that engineering belongs to men only. Boy children and male engineers will also attend to allow all the stakeholders an opportunity to understand the challenges that women face in engineering broadly.

The Unesco Africa Engineering Week was launched on Monday and runs until 4 September. It is collaboration between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
